Writer Jennica Harper joins Windy & Friends creative team

(Vancouver, BC)  Twofold Films and Kickstart Entertainment are pleased to announce writer Jennica Harper has joined the creative team to adapt the award-winning app Windy & Friends into an animated series.

Jennica’s broad range of credits include Reboot (YTV), Mr. Young (Disney XD), Some Assembly Required (Netflix) and Motive (CTV/ABC).

“We are incredibly pleased to attract such a well-established writer to this evolving property,” said Marc Stephenson, producer. “Jennica’s ability to deepen characters and storylines for a children’s television audience combined with her great experience brings an exciting enhancement to the project.”

The 11-minute episodes use everyday adventures to encourage curiosity and creativity while solving simple problems.

Originally created by Vancouver writers and designers Robin Mitchell-Cranfield and Judith Steedman, the loveable, pre-school book series Windy & Friends was brought to life as a series of 10 interactive stop-motion storybook apps by producers Leah Mallen of Twofold Films, and Marc Stephenson, in partnership with Loud Crow Interactive.

The adaptation to an interactive platform, produced with the support of the CMF Experimental Fund and the Creative BC Digital Development Fund, helped expand the brand and storylines and bring an even bigger audience to the well-loved characters within this imaginative world.

The app was awarded the Kidscreen Award for Best Learning App in two consecutive years, 2015 and 2016.

“Creating the apps gave new life to the hand-crafted world,” says producer, Leah Mallen, Twofold Films.  “Judith and Robin helped to bring the characters and environments to life and found that their fans of the books loved the new outlet of storytelling.  This next step will be to further grow the cherished stories and characters to an animated show.”

Heather Puttock, head of production for Kickstart Animation has long been a fan of the world.

“Judith and Robin have created such a magical cast of characters that are ideal to bring the sometimes complex world around pre-schoolers into a more manageable focus.  The small trials of life and the rich environment around them bring a simple whimsy to every episode.  The handcrafted design and unique characters are unlike anything of TV right now,” said Puttock.

“I am very happy to be part of this project!” gushed writer Harper, “I have known and loved Judith and Robin’s books for years and I am so pleased to move forward with this series.”
